Job seekers still have an opportunity to take up short term horticultural work under the Trial and can earn up to $5000 without reducing their income support payment. Job seekers that have been on Newstart or Youth Allowance (Other) for three months or more may be eligible to participate in the Trial.
Participants placed under the Trial can also receive a Living Away and Travel Allowance if the work they are placed in is located more than 120 km from their home.
Job seekers will have the opportunity to gain valuable skills that can be transferred into other trades or to start a career in the horticultural industry.
There are a variety of roles available, such as harvesting of crops, pruning and trimming, operating harvesting equipment, packing and canning.
Job seekers need to be placed in the trial by their Employment Services Provider.
