“An abundance of confidence”

Motivated by a desire to show her daughter how to be independent and confident, Beth Blundell worked with her ParentsNext provider in Maroochydore to build her confidence and define a path to reach her goals.

After having her daughter, Beth didn’t return to work straight away and experienced depression and anxiety. Her confidence levels were low and she wasn’t sure that the ParentsNext program could help.

ParentsNext is an Australian Government program that helps parents plan and prepare for employment by the time their youngest child starts school. Through the program, parents receive tailored assistance to identify their education and employment goals and the steps needed to reach these goals.

Her provider, Narelle Guilford from Designer Life, explained that she and Beth worked together to build a plan for her future.

“Everybody’s got a different set of goals that they want to achieve,” she said.

“I love being a part of that journey and seeing what [Beth] has accomplished. My hope for her is to achieve her dreams and goals doing something that she loves.”

Narelle helped Beth find support services that suited her and showed her how to write a professional cover letter and résumé.

Beth said she now has “an abundance of confidence” to apply for work.

“You feel like you’ve got that opportunity, you feel like you’ve got that boost,” she said.

“I would ultimately like to go to uni; do something in the medical field. I can’t tell you how much confidence does for someone.”
