A job matching event for job seekers and employers in South Australia has proved to be a winner for job hunters.
The Job Pathways event was supported by the Department of Jobs and Small Business and Business SA.
The Department’s Adelaide-based Employment Liaison Officer, Sharon Clarke, says the Job Pathways event provided an opportunity for young people looking for work and local businesses looking to fill apprenticeship and traineeship positions to come together in a supported environment.
‘Think speed-dating for the labour market,’ Sharon said. ‘Thirteen South Australian businesses and 37 young people aged 17 to 24 had their business requirements and career preferences matched.
‘Three jobactive providers—Job Prospects, Matchworks and Workskil Australia—helped with matching job seekers with the work on offer, with small networking groups allowing young people to ask questions.
‘The event really broke down employment barriers for the young people who attended, many of whom had struggled with recruitment processes in the past.
‘It was also helpful to the businesses, who were able to fast track their recruitment.’
The event closed with a lunch where businesses and jobseekers were able to interact in a more casual environment. Job seekers were able to present their resume to business representatives.
‘We’ve had at least three job seekers offered employment and one has been interviewed for an information technology position,’ Sharon said.
‘This is a great outcome and there is strong interest to run similar events for other stakeholder groups.’
