Place Based Approaches trial in Yarrabah

For:

Information about the Place Based Approaches trial in Yarrabah, Queensland announced in the 2017-18 Federal Budget.

In consultations with Indigenous Australians there has been consistent feedback that Indigenous organisations are not being given the chance to deliver services in their community for the betterment of their community.

The Government has invested $5.0 million over four years for the trial of a Place Based Approach in Yarrabah from 2 July 2018. This will allow government employment services to be delivered in the community by the community. This will benefit Indigenous Australians in Yarrabah as the employment services will be better aligned to the community’s social and economic priorities.

The pilot will not impact Transition to Work or Disability Employment Services.

To build the capacity of Yarrabah to deliver employment services, a flexible funding pool is available to deliver local employment projects, for example a community skills and training activity.

Who is eligible?

All Indigenous Australians in Yarrabah who are in receipt of qualifying income support from the Department of Human Services (Centrelink).
