Below are the Empowering YOUth Initiatives operating in Queensland.

Building Stronger Futures

Vision Australia

Through the Building Stronger Futures initiative young people who are blind or have low vision will receive pre-employment support in a simulated work environment to develop soft skills, communication skills, interview techniques and explore career options. This will be combined with mental health support to help young people gain permanent employment.

Regional and metropolitan areas in the ACT, NSW, Queensland and Victoria

Participants

Building Strong Futures if for young people aged 15-24 years who are blind or have low vision and are not currently enrolled in school.

Initiative period

30 June 2017 to 31 March 2019

Digital Industry Mentor Service

headspace

Through the Digital Industry Mentor Service young people will connect online with experienced industry mentors in order to develop their confidence, networking and soft skills. Mentors will increase employment opportunities for participants through existing networks and setting realistic goals that align with participants’ skills and work-readiness.

Young people aged 15-24 years.

Employment First Aid (E+)

Impact Community Services

Through an anonymous telephone hotline service and digital platforms, Employment First Aid (E+), participants and employers will have access to advice and support designed to enhance confidence and resilience in the workplace. The service will promote a range of strategies that employers and employees can adopt to improve retention of young people in employment.

Participants

Young people aged 15-24 years who are in the first six months of their employment.

19 June 2017 to 18 June 2019

Empowering Youth to Thrive

Pathways to Resilience Trust

The Empowering Youth to Thrive initiative uses a neuroscience approach to empower young people in learning and happiness, assist with transitioning into employment, increase confidence and ensure they build stronger relationships in the workplace.

The initiative will work collaboratively with families and caregivers, as well as employers to ensure participants receive a range of case management support.

Location

Queensland - Logan City Local Government Area, Inala, Carole Park or Acacia Ridge

Participants

Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Pacifica young people aged 15-24 years (although non-indigenous people may apply).

Recycle Your Dreams

QLD Youth Services

The Recycle Your Dreams is a social enterprise that recycles goods for re-sale. Young people will engage in daily operations to develop their entrepreneurial skills, including business planning, product design, product making and product distribution.

Young people aged 15-24 at risk of long term unemployment

YAppE – Youth App

Black Swan Health Ltd

YAppE – Youth App Employment is an interactive, user-centred app for young people experiencing mental health concerns to support them to sustain employment. The data provided through the app will be tracked and monitored by a team of mental health professionals ready to provide personalised support and immediate assistance when required.

Location

Australia wide.

Participants

Young people aged 15-24 years who with symptoms of a mental health issue, willing to receive support in relation to this issue, have a mobile device capable of supporting the app.

Initiative runs from

1 May 2017 to 30 April 2019

Youth Community

Karingal Inc

The Youth Community model, young people will build strong peer-support networks and be supported in developing their social skills, leadership skills, marketing skills, employability, confidence and motivation to seek employment. This program includes access to online platforms incorporating gamification and rewards to motivate participants to reach goals and complete the program while also receiving mentoring support.

Participants

Young people aged 15-24 years who are unemployed for 12 months or more.
